What is one thing you've learned about yourself as a result of this program?

  1. One thing that I learned about myself as a result of the program is that I enjoy relaying and explaining my religious background to other individuals as well as learn about others religious and cultural views.

  2. I have learned that I do not know a great amount about other nationalities. Just as Jews have a deep roots, so do the hundreds of different Latino groups in the world. And to get that information, a person must need reliable sources as well as human interactions.

  3. I have realized a lot about myself. I have started to understand more about the Jewish religion and what it means to me personally. I understand that though I do not practice Judaism, I still carry a lot of the values of Judaism with me in my daily life. I can also understand why the Jewish culture is important to my family.

I have also come to learn more about the Museum of Tolerance and the work that it does. It has helped me become more interested in continuing to volunteer with the Museum programs and tours. I really like being involved with the education and outreach aspect of the Tools for Tolerance program as well.

  4. Being in this program has taught me about all the wonderful opportunities that the Museum of Tolerance has to offer. Additionally, I have really begun to understand the importance of my Jewish heritage and how I can use the leadership skills that I have learned to teach other students about the Jewish culture and religion.

  5. I have learned a lot about myself as a result of this program. But, one thing that I learned was my lack of knowledge about Latino communities in Los Angeles. It is true that Los Angeles is home to the biggest number of Latinos in US; however, I knew very little about them. But this program gave me the opportunity to change that. This is very important for me because it motivates me to learn about Latino community more.

Second, I didn’t know how discriminatory some of my perceptions about the Latino communities were. I had many false perceptions about Latinos. But after this program, many of such perceptions were changed or they completely went away.

  6. I have learned that I can make friends better than I thought, and people have a respect for me that I didnt know existed. I was able to grow not only educationally, but also as a person- one with experiences. I cannot only focus on what I now have become, but I do have to say that it does scare me now to think that I had no pre-conceived thoughts about Latinos or knew anything about them. All I know now is that I have so much more to learn and I am not done growing.

  7. I have learned that I have more stereotypes than I realized, mainly concerning the rest of Judaism and that it is going to take a conscientious effort to change this habit. However, because of this program it will be something that I will work on continuously. Additionally, interacting with those who have different Jewish views than myself has been very eye-opening.

  8. one thing of many that i have learned about myself was that i judge much too easily. even if the judgement is only in my head and i never tell it to others or act based on this judgement, yet i am so quick to judge based on outer appearances and that is an issue i have already begun to fix.

  9. i learned more about how being jewish means being a member of a group that is incredibly diverse. during the second session in which we discovered the roots of jews all around the world, i also was able to see how the other jsl fellows and interns have distinct backgrounds. throughout the other sessions, i think we all found that being jewish connects our different cultures into one that stresses a call for action to do good deeds and effect societal change.

  10. I have learned a lot about myself through this program through the sessions, but even more so by having to look deep within me and my family background in order to find connections between myself and the Latino students. I have learned how important it is to understand our history and how we can use our past to make an impact on the future. I have also learned how little I knew about other cultures and nationalities. I have also learned the many similarities we share with the Latino community that I had no idea before.

  11. Through this program, I learned about myself and how I'm somewhat closed-minded. Throughout the program I have been trying to become more open-minded to different individuals I encounter everyday. It also taught me to appreciate my background and my family's background and how to really enjoy my family's traditions and customs.

I have learned more about my own culture and history. I found ways to apply my knowledge and relate my experiences as a Jew to other cultures (specifically through different cultural cuisines).

  13. I have learned a lot about myself through this program. I have learned about my emotional responses and how to effectively and appropriately direct them to fit each situation. I have also learned about my Jewish culture in a way that has been different from what I have learned in the past 12 years of my Jewish Education. It has been a nice way to summarize and cumulate all my cultural learnings as well as learn about anti-semetic propaganda. I have learned how emotional I can get to anti-semetic media reports. Through the media and Israeli advancement sessions I have realized that these are two fields that deeply interest me. All the technological and world-wide advancements that Israel has made in this world are unknown to the majority of humans and in the past several months I have been having discussions with teachers and my peers about the importance of Israel to the world. Besides my commitment to Israel I have shared in my Spanish, Hebrew and Jewish study classes why I find Israel such as vital state. I have been able to better express my passion for my culture.

  14. I have learned that I sometimes make assumptions or generalizations in my mind unconsciously. Sometimes they are about a race, sometimes about a gender, and sometimes about a single person. It is very hard not to make these generalizations and I don't think that they are bad in all cases, but certainly in most cases. It takes real self-reflection to correct these generalizations.

  15. I learned about a lot of the similarities that Jews and Latinos have in common. If someone would have asked me what Jews and Latinos have in common, before the program, I probably would have said nothing, but now i can relate to Latinos in many ways

  16. As a result of this program I learned that I didn't know much about the Latino culture, even though they are a large number of the population in California. In addition, I found that I enjoy sharing and exchanging information about religion and culture with others.

  17. I have learned so much about myself because of this wonderful program. I have learned that I am part of a greater community of which I used to know nothing of! I realized my lack of education about the people around me. But now, thanks to this program I know much more.

Another thing I learned about myself was that I'm more open to new ideas than i thought. I always thought i was so conservative with how i thought and that i was stubborn. But meeting with my Latino counterparts really gave me a feel for something different- and i didn't reject it. I learned that I'm not always correct in how i think and that there is so much i need to learn. I learned that making false assumptions is the worse thing you can do because it makes you biased about someone you dont even know!

  18. I've learned a few important things about myself through this course. Most importantly, I realized that I can relate to people from all different backgrounds. When I was open-minded I learned a lot about the Latino culture as well as other sects of Judaism. I have the power to be inspired, but only if I allow myself. I also became more aware of how important you present yourself because you might be representing your community, religion or program.
