  1. It is interesting to note that the reason why the Jews eat this "Cholent" on the Shabbath (Saturday)is because a long long time ago, there was a group of Jews who refused to follow the teachings of the Rabbis in the Talmud. They only followed the literal interpretation of the Bible. Thus, when the Bible says that it is forbidden to use a fire on the Shabbath, those group of Jews did not use ANY fire on the Shabbath- they sat in the dark, etc. The Rabbis however taught that the Bible is only referring to CREATING a fire on Shabbath, but one can derive benefit from a fire created before hand. Thus, in order to prove to those maverick group of Jews that they are wrong, the Jews eat "Cholent", a stew mix that was placed on a fire before the Shabbath started and lets it cook throughout the night.
